I recently got a job at The Record-Eagle as a copy editor/page designer. Usually, I am busy designing pages in the newspaper, but every once in a while I will read some of the copy. That is how I noticed your column on Sundays. I take comfort in the fact that there is someone else in this town that thinks somewhat like me. Anyway, I wanted to say that I have, on numerous occasions, been taken aback by many racial comments. I can't stand it when a white person says some comment about a black person nearby. I can't stand it that they assume that I agree with their views because I am the same color as them. I am not trying to stereotype any race, but this is something that I have experienced too often. When I moved to Traverse City, it was more shocking to me to not see a diverse community. I am used to seeing all races and people of different faiths. Furthermore, I also can't stand it when racial comments are spoken, and I am silent. Not out of fear, but more out of shock and disbelief that the person is so ignorant. You should see the movie "Crash" if you haven't seen it. Now that's a brilliant movie.
I enjoy your writing style and you have a deep compassion that shows in your writing. I am also a columnist for Pencil Stubs Online and I would love to read more of your work on our Publication.
